After quitting their comfortable desk jobs, three University of Chicago graduates approached PDT with a vision to create a smart under-desk elliptical built specifically for the modern work environment.
With no shortage of studies linking America's obesity problem to sitting for long durations, the Cubii team set out to help those who work at a desk achieve the moderate amount of exercise needed to reduce health risks like heart disease, diabetes and even certain cancers.
The PDT team went through a vigorous prototyping process, putting an emphasis on two key factors: sound reduction and range of motion.
PDT implemented a magnetic resistance system, as opposed to the common friction brake, making Cubii the quietest elliptical on the market.
Numerous prototypes were built in the quest for the ideal range of motion, enabling the user to comfortably pedal without constantly banging their knees on the underside of a desk.
PDT's team worked closely with the Cubii team, sharing our many years of knowledge and experience in the product design and development to help guide this startup company from concept to production. The result was a Kickstarter project that successfully navigated the development process, reached fruition and delivered product to the early adopters. The product has shown sustainability in sales and is likely to succeed and reach larger scale production.
