PDT Earns 2014 ADEX Awards

CHICAGO—April 4, 2014—Product Development Technologies (PDT), a global, full-service product development firm, announced today that it has been awarded two 2014 ADEX Awards for Design Excellence and PDT’s partner company, Telefonix, Inc. earned one. PDT partnered with clients to develop products that have earned ADEX awards for their outstanding form, function and fitness for a particular purpose.

PDT’s designs for Life Fitness Discover User Interface (Platinum), Walnut Media MP50 (Gold) and Telefonix’s design for the L1 PowerPost EV Charging Station (Silver) all received awards in the Product Design category.

“At PDT, we strive to innovate while still maintaining a strong contextual design aesthetic,” said Mark Schwartz, president of PDT. “These awards are the ultimate testament to the collaborative and creative spirit we enjoy with our clients and partner.”

Life Fitness Discover User Interface: The Discover user interface delivers the personalized technology today’s plugged-in exercisers demand. It features Swipe™ Technology with an ultra-responsive touch screen that functions much like other personal electronic devices such as tablets, making it easier to navigate between screens. The new Discover UI is built on an Android operating system and the first to sync with Android devices, in addition to Apple’s iOS devices. Users can identify themselves in a number of ways, including smartphone, PIN entry, USB or RFID to access personal online content and navigate the web directly from the equipment, as well as create their own workout programs and set content preferences. Through Discover, exercisers can run, hike or bike through interactive outdoor courses, a flagship feature called Lifescape, which includes destinations such as California, France and Germany to name a few. The machine’s incline and resistance change with the terrain as users trek through pristine nature and gorgeous scenery. Discover’s superior technology is optimized through a complementary cloud solution, LFconnect, which enables facility owners and managers to customize available content to exercisers and provides free asset management. LFconnect also supports personal trainers who want to track workouts or set up individualized workouts for clients.

Walnut Media MP50: The MP-50 is an internet streaming device and user experience designed for the masses. It can allow the user to watch or listen to entertainment content, access social media or shop quickly and easily. The design of the device and remote was created to step away from the black boxes that still fill the store shelves. This device is elegant to look at and operate. The on screen user interface and remote were designed in tandem. The screen menu has multiple live channel views that can show real-time, glanceable information such as recent tweets, temperature and shopping deals. The menu channels are quick to navigate, customize and legible from a distance. The graphic theme has multiple style skins to match various home decors. Common icons are used on the remote, interface and port labeling on the back of the device.

L1 PowerPost EV Charging Station: The Telefonix L1 PowerPost™ EV Charging Station is the first commercial Level 1 Electrical Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE), providing an economical charging solution with a retractable charging cable to eliminate the clutter and potential hazard of long cables. The L1 PowerPost Charging Station is emerging as a player in the EVSE landscape due to the product’s unique use of commercial Level 1 charging, integration of Telefonix’s patented retractable cable design, potential for custom branding or design, and the convenience of a user-friendly interface with a cost of ownership that creates a win-win for both the EV driver and the Parking Facility. The ADEX Awards are judged by an anonymous panel of esteemed professionals that represent a cross-section of the design industry. All winning products are featured on the ADEX website and in the April 2014 edition of the ADEX Winner’s Issue.
